Criminal Law
For the last 15 years I have been working as a court interpreter in Armenian and Farsi for Los Angeles Superior Court and US Federal Court in over 2000 criminal proceedings such as preliminary hearings, arraignments, pretrials, bail review hearings, detention hearings, trials and other proceedings. These cases involve all types of criminal matters ranging from simple infractions to misdemeanors and serious felonies. During my affiliation with the courts I have become very familiar with the criminal justice system and the legal terminology used in such proceedings. I have also translated and trascribed several audio tapes for the court and various involved parties.
Civil Law
For the last 15 years I have been working as a freelance interpreter in various proceedings in the civil justice system. I have interpreted at over 2500 depositions, 150 trials and numerous insurance statements, med-legal evaluations, examinations under oath, arbitrations and mediations. These cases involve personal injury and various accidents, family law, complex business disputes, various real estate transactions, landlord-tenant disputes, medical malpractice, legal malpractice, workers compensation, insurance bad faith, bankrupcy, entertainment law and first party insurance claims. Over the course of these years I have gained the trust of many reputable attorneys and language agencies, who hire me on a regular basis for their depositions and trials.
In the course of the last 15 years I have interpreted at thousands of administrative hearings and proceedings such as Social Security hearings, unemployment board hearings, workers compensation adjudications and other short administrative proceedings.
Business Conferences
I have interpreted at numerous conferences for SEIU Long Term Care Workers Union board meetings throughout California. I was one of only 2 interpreters chosen to travel with them to their meetings in various locations in California.
Community and School District meetings
I have interpreted at several community and townhall meetings involving City of Los Angeles Redevelopment Agency, Housing Authority and Los Angeles Unified School District regarding the subject of acquiring new properties, expansion of schools, building new fire stations and housing assistance to seniors.
Voice-overs
I have translated and acted as a voice talent and assistant director for a 50,000 word audio-video production for Los Angeles County Deparmtent of Social Services. I have also translated and done voice-over work for MTA which was turned into an audio production to assist commuters and other patrons.
Written Translations
During the last 17 years I have translated over 200,000 words of written materials from Armenian, Farsi and German. Some of the documenst I have worked on include numerous educational transcripts from foreign countries, letters, legal agreements, birth cirtificates and other immigration related documents, tapes and other audio materials to be used in family law matters, advertising brochures, school fliers, written information circulated by cities and other municipalities, election material for a city. I have also translated many undercover audio material for various law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and the court. In many instances I had to testify in court regarding my translation. Many of the documents and tapes that I translated have had significant legal consequences for the parties involved.
Education
-Bachelor of Science degree from California State University of Los Angeles in Business Administration.
-High School Education in Iran, in Armenian and Farsi and in Austria in German.
-Received the title of Associate in Claims from the Insurance Institute of America after completing a course in insurance claims.
